Seafield Snippets - Friday 27th June
I can’t quite believe that we have come to the end of another year here at Super Seafield! We’ve had a fantastic week where we’ve celebrated our P7 and ELC leavers at special assemblies. There have been lots of fun activities and games going on across the school. A highlight was our school “Break the Rules Afternoon” where our children loved rebelling against the rules set and then enjoyed an ice cream with their friends. Our ELC families came in for a “Stay and Play” session which was enjoyed by all who attended. This event came on the back of feedback from our parents/carers who asked to come along to take part in structured activities and feedback from those who attended this week was really positive – thank you to those who took time to complete the evaluation.
Staffing – As you will know, our staffing for next year is now set.
P1 Miss Robb (covering for Mrs Wallace’s maternity leave
P2/3 Mrs Denholm and Mrs Baird
P3/4 Miss White (Mrs Bain on a Tuesday)
P5/6 Miss Halliday
P6/7 Mr Hamilton (Mrs Flynn on a Thursday)
Mrs Robertson will continue to cover class teacher non contact time, delivering a range of curricular areas. Mrs Bain is returning to us on a part time basis and will support learning groups on a Monday and work with P3/4 on a Tuesday. Miss Cooper and Mrs Mills are sadly leaving us today. We thank them for their effort and commitment to the children they have taught and wish them well for what comes next.
Our nursery team will be changing in August too. Ms Graham leaves us during the summer period. We thank her for her hard work during her time with us. We will be welcoming back Mrs Todd, pupil support worker in the nursery, who has been on secondment as a practitioner in another setting for the last couple of years, who has decided to return to her substantive post here at Seafield. She will be introduced to parents/carers and meet the children when she starts with us in August. Our Area Support Manager Mrs Brown is also moving on to support different nursery settings and we welcome Ms Elizabeth Notman who will work with us on one day per week, supporting the school senior leadership team and the nursery staff team directly.
ELC – our nursery (ELC) remains open over the summer period. If your child will not be attending for any of their sessions, please let the staff team know. They will not have access to the groupcall system or the school email box so please ensure that absences are reported by telephone. The staff and children will be taking advantage of having the building to themselves so will make extra use of the gym hall and the outside field if the weather allows! A reminder to those children who are joining P1 that their last nursery sessions will be during week beginning 4th August, they are not able to attend nursery on Monday 11th or Tuesday 12th August.
Summer Programme – there are a range of summer programmes and activities taking place across West Lothian over the summer, many of which have already been shared with you. You will find lots of information on West Lothian Council’s website or social media. There are some links shared below however there are other opportunities being shared by a range of organisations, again you can find details across social media platforms.

Tesco Stronger Starts – those of you who shop in Tesco may be familiar with their “Stronger Starts” scheme where local organisations can be considered for funding to support projects which customers can vote on with blue tokens. I am pleased to see that an application made by our nursery team to seek funding for cooking equipment was successful and that from next week, you can vote for us in local Tesco stores. Please pass this on to your friends and families and hopefully we will be the winners of the vote!
Seafield Gala Day – a reminder that any child who wishes to walk with the school/nursery must be accompanied by an adult. Please meet in the playground for 11.45 for fancy dress judging before the procession. I hope that everyone has a fantastic day and that the sun shines for you all during civic week and on the day!
The staff team and I would like to thank those who kindly gave gifts this week. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated. We hope that all of our children and families have a fantastic summer break and look forward to seeing everyone back and refreshed after the holiday. A reminder that there are 2 staff inset days at the beginning of term and pupils will return on Wednesday 11th August.
Kind regards, Lynne Egan.
