End of Term round up

We have had another busy few weeks here at Seafield PS!  We’ve enjoyed welcoming families into school for assemblies, coffee mornings and for our learning breakfasts where our adults got the chance to hear about how we learn in numeracy and take part in a rich task which definitely provided some challenge for everyone!  Thank you to all those who came along to support.  Our Parent Consultation evenings were also very well attended and there were lots of good news stories shared with you about your children.

We are saying goodbye to Mrs Wallace as she goes off to have her baby, we wish her well and look forward to hearing news of baby’s arrival.  Mrs Mills will be joining the staff team to take P1 until the summer break.  She is a familiar face here in Seafield as she has previously worked with other classes in the school and we are looking forward to having her back with us.

Achievement Assembly

I had hoped to hold an assembly on the last morning of term to celebrate achievements but time has gotten away with me so we will do this on the first Friday back.  If you wish to share news of your child’s achievements, please complete the e-form:  https://forms.office.com/e/vHQ8Artbht

Digital Schools Award

Mrs Wallace and some of our pupils recently took part in an online meeting as part of our Digital Schools Award accreditation.  We are awaiting news of whether we have been given the award however the children involved were fantastic and represented our school very well.  We’ll keep you updated but in the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for us!

Rights Respecting Schools

Mr Hamilton and the pupil group are starting to put together our action plan to start the journey to trying to achieve our Gold award.  The steering group (which contains pupils, staff and community partners) met this week and started to work on their plan.  We will keep you updated.

School Football Team

Our football team attended a recent festival where they took part in a series of games against other primary schools.  They were proud to debut our new school strip which was kindly donated to us.  Everyone had a good time at the event and were proud to represent the school in their smart new kit.

Quality Improvement Day

On 12th March, we welcomed head teachers from other schools in our Deans cluster to take part in our school’s quality improvement day.  This involved each class being visited by 2 of the head teachers who observed learning and teaching in numeracy.  I am pleased to say that the day went well and there were positive strengths in each class in areas such as learners being very engaged in the tasks they were working on; effective and skillful questioning being used and positive and nurturing relationships and classroom environments.  We have a few next steps to take forward such as making sure children learn about how they use meta-skills in their daily learning; and making greater use of formative assessment strategies to be able to gather “live” information on how pupils understand and are managing tasks set.  Well done to all staff and pupils who showcased our school very well!

The nursery also took part in the quality improvement day.  The team who visited the nursery noted that staff had worked hard on improving the environment, including the recent refresh of the garden which I’m sure you’ll agree is looking great.  The team also commented positively on the care that the children received from the staff and were happy with nursery paperwork such as planning files and our self-evaluation of our work which staff participate in regularly.  There were some next steps in the ELC too which included to continue to develop activities which extend and challenge the children’s learning and to ensure that staff observations of learning are clear about what aspects of learning were taking place.  Again, a big well done to the staff team and to our youngest learners who were a credit to themselves and their families.

Park Smart

This week we have been running a Park Smart campaign.  We had a whole school assembly to launch the scheme on Monday and over the course of the week, classes learned about road safety and completed activities about safe parking.  We have had a good number of Parent Pledges returned, if you haven’t yet returned yours, please try to do so after the break.

Upcoming Events

We have a lot going on next term and some dates previously shared with you have changed due to unforeseen circumstances.  When we return after the break, I’ll share information about dates for the term.

ELC

A reminder that our ELC remains open over the Easter break.  If your child will not be attending, please telephone the nursery mobile number as staff won’t have access to school email or groupcall.  The nursery is closed on Friday 18th and Monday 21st April.

I hope that everyone has a lovely Easter when it comes and we look forward to seeing school children back on Tuesday 22nd April.

Kind regards, Lynne Egan.
