P6/7 Friday 18th September

It has been a busy week in Primary 6/7.  We decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning this week:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

• We have been working on Place Value in Numeracy and most people now feel confident about comparing and sequencing 5,6 and 7 digit numbers.
• We continued our RME topic by discussing rites of passage and learned about the Jewish Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah celebrations.  We were surprised to learn that Jewish boys had been celebrating this occasion for longer than Jewish girls and this led to a short discussion on equality and the reasons why this might be the case.
• We were entertained by Sebastian who chose to spend the Seafield Schillings he had earned to  ‘Be The Teacher’.  He created a power point to introduce his topic and then ran a sea turtle design competition for his peers (and Mrs Baird)
• In PE with Mrs Flynn we enjoyed playing handball and we also enjoyed developing our golf skills further with Mr Hamilton.
• We have been working on our Sustainability power points which we will share during our class assembly.  This should be a treat for our audience as we have also been enthusiastically writing raps and planning recycled fashion outfits!
• We learned about description texts and some people felt the planning format sheet really helped them to organise their writing into paragraphs

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

• We learned more about similes and metaphors and we are going to aim to include these in our description texts next week.
• We have seen an overall improvement in the number of pupils being respectful in class and some pupils are going to continue to work  on this.
